An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale shook Berazjan in the southwestern Iranian province of Bushehr on Thursday at 5 PM local time.
The head of Iran’s National Crisis Management Organization, Hassan Ghadami, announced that the latest reports indicate eight people have lost their lives as a result of this earthquake.
The governor of Bushehr has also reported that 190 people were injured in the catastrophe; 130 of them were treated in the hospital outpatient ward and discharged.
President Hassan Rohani has expressed sympathy for those affected and called for immediate action by all appropriate government bodies.
The region has experienced aftershocks in the range of 2 to 4 on the Richter scale, and the Mehr News Agency reports that people have remained on the streets in light of the continued aftershocks.
