Iran’s Minister of Power has announced that if Tehran residents do not seriously obey the calls for water conservation, the city will face water rationing and shortages.
IRNA reports that Hamid Chitchian said on Wednesday October 30 that precipitation in Tehran this year was down by 37 percent compared to last month, adding: “If the public does not heed conservation guidelines, we will have to look at rationing.”
He added that a campaign to reduce household water consumption by 20 percent could effectively save the city from rationing.
Earlier, the Ministry of Power announced that a drop in precipitation this year has caused a 30-percent drop in the volume of water in 77 dams across the country and only five dams exceed 90 percent water capacity.
