Supreme Leader criticizes elements of Rohani’s UN trip
Ayatollah Khamenei

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said in a speech today that some of events that occurred during the Iranian president’s trip to New York were inappropriate.

In a speech on Saturday October 5, Ayatollah Khamenei said: “We support the diplomatic move of the government such as the trip to New York because we trust the government and have faith in it; however, what occurred in New York was not appropriate. It’s because we do not have trust in the U.S. government and consider it to be supremacist, illogical and an oath-breaker.”

He went on to add that the U.S. government is “dominated by the international Zionist network and because of that it is forced to appease the oppressive government of Israel.”

Iranian President Hassan Rohani visited New York to attend the UN General Assembly, and during his time there the U.S. president placed an unprecedented telephone call to him, which many have called a mark of improved relations between the two countries, which have had no diplomatic relations since 1979.

Some ultraconservative elements in the Islamic Republic establishment have frowned upon the Iranian president’s consent to receive a call from the U.S. president. Others have in general supported Hassan Rohani’s handling of the visit.
