Iran’s Culture and Guidance minister says 60 percent of Tehran residents use satellite dishes.
Their use is prohibited in Iran, and the police are authorized to confiscate them.
The Mehr News Agency reports that Ali Jannati, the culture minister, said in a visit with Ayatollah Hamadani: “Today, free access to information, satellites and the internet is affecting people’s lifestyles.”
He added that despite periodic confiscation of the satellite dishes, people quickly replace them and continue using them.
Jannati maintained: “Satellites, websites and social networking sites are some of the chief sources of anti-Islamic and wrong models.”
Internet access is highly restricted in Iran, and people use special software to in order to access many popular websites.
