The father of Mohammad Kamrani, one of the detainees killed in Kahrizak Prison, said on the fourth anniversary of his son’s death: “The Kahrizak case has not been closed, and we will certainly appeal the sentence given to Mr. Mortazavi.”
The Mehr News Agency reports that on the sidelines of a ceremony commemorating the three young men who died in custody in Kahrizak Prison in 2009, Abdolhossein Ruholamini, the father of another Kahrizak victim, said: “We have said from the very beginning that people have to be accountable for their actions and take responsibility for what goes on under their watch.”
He added that if judiciary and security officials have committed a violation, they should be held accountable, be made to apologize and then resign from public office.
Former Tehran prosecutor Saeed Mortazavi was charged in the Kahrizak case together with his assistant Ali Akbar Heydarfar and Judge Haddad, accused of transferring the detainees to Kahrizak Prison, where they were tortured and at least three died.
The court found them guilty of negligence in their duties and barred them for life from assuming any position in the judiciary, adding a five-year ban on filling any public position.
