Judiciary official plans to appeal sentence
Ali Akbar Heydarifar

Ali Akbar Heydarifar, one of the accused judiciary officials in the Kahrizak case, told the media that he will appeal the sentence issued against him.

Heydarifar has been barred for life from taking any position in the judiciary and for five years from public employment for “the illegal arrest” of protesters in the 2009 election demonstrations.

Heydarifar told the Moj News Agency: “I will certainly protest against this sentence and I believe that a country under the leadership of the Supreme Leader will not endure such unfairness.”

He claimed that the arrest of people involved in the unrest that followed the 2009 election was “legal”, saying: “By condemning us, the court is reasoning that the arrest of individuals involved in sedition and disturbances of 2009 was illegal, and we have been given the maximum sentence for this.”

The arrest and transfer of detainees to Kahrizak led to the torture of many detainees and finally to the death of Mohsen Ruholamini, Amir Javadifar and Mohammad Kamrani.
