Former senior officials of the historic city of Yazd have called for a halt to unregulated construction projects in the city, which they claim are threatening the city’s historic buildings.
ILNA reports that in a letter, former governors and officials of Cultural Heritage organizations warn the current Yazd governor that several historic building are being pulled down in historic areas with complete indifference from government officials.
The letter indicates that these construction activities have “triggered grave concern among architecture experts and the community, and they have expressed their protests in various forms.”
The letter goes on to add that the continued demolition of historic buildings reveals serious violations in the legal and expert handling of construction projects, adding that “in the past week three historic homes in Yazd were demolished despite relentless protests.”
Yazd has a 3,000-year history dating back to the Median Empire.
