An Egyptian delegation has met with Islamic Republic officials in Tehran to discuss the Syrian crisis.
Iranian media report that the discussion revolved around the possibility of reviving a plan to arrange a meeting among Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Egypt to find a practical solution for ending the conflict in Syria.
AFP reports that Egypt’s deputy head of international affairs and foreign cooperation headed the Egyptian delegation, which aimed to encourage Tehran’s participation in resuming talks about Syria among the four countries.
ISNA reports that the delegation met with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday before the president’s scheduled trip to Eastern Azerbaijan Province. ISNA quoted Ahmadinejad saying the insecurity in Syria will translate into insecurity for the whole region.
The Egyptian delegation reportedly expressed optimism over the renewed relations between Iran and Egypt, which had been severed for more than 30 years.
Earlier attempts to discuss the Syrian upheaval among the four countries ended up being fruitless.
