Many iron dealers in Iran have closed their businesses in protest against the value added tax on their goods.
The Kaleme website reports that the protests began early last week. Most of Tehran’s iron dealers have come out in support of the strike and will be closing their stores in the bazaar and pulling down their blinds.
Iron workers’ representatives also began sit-ins at local mosques yesterday, April 22, adding that their protests will continue until the government takes note of their demands.
The Iranian economy has been experiencing rampant inflation in the past year after international sanctions cut oil exports in half and the government stopped subsidizing energy and food staples.
