Mother says dead blogger acted on his own
Gohar Eshghi

Saham News reports that Gohar Eshghi, the mother of Sattar Beheshti, who by many accounts died under torture, has announced that her son was in no way linked to any groups and was an independent observer of the social conditions in the country and commented on his blog about the social maladies that he saw around him.

Eshghi also stressed that she and her family have not received any money from the authorities and will continue to demand justice in the case of her son’s death.

She added that the public understands the hardships her family has endured and the authorities are trying to dismiss her family’s demands as they have done in past with other families of similar victims.

She emphasized, however, that she will not give up in her demand to get full and fair treatment in her son’s case.

Sattar Beheshti was arrested in October of 2012 and died five days after his arrest during the interrogation process. While the coroner’s report did mention signs of abuse on his body, it has refused to declare that torture was the cause of his death.

The Cyber Police chief in Tehran was dismissed because of the Beheshti case and the ensuing publicity; however, in recent weeks, Iranian MP Ali Motahari has stressed that the authorities have not dealt with the case properly and the family must be offered a public apology.
