Prosecutor questions eight people over scandalous videos

Iranian state media have announced that the prosecutor has summoned eight employees of the Social Security Fund in connection with the scandalous videos of Fazel Larijani and Saeed Mortazavi revealed last week in Parliament and posted on YouTube.

The videos accuse the Larijani brothers, who head the Iranian Parliament and the judiciary, of abuse of power and corruption.

Last week, as the Labour Minister was being impeached for appointing Saeed Mortazavi to the helm of the Social Security Fund, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, rather than supporting the minister’s choice, began showing a film that revealed the brother of the parliamentary speaker wheeling and dealing with Saeed Mortazavi.

Ali Larijani, the head of Parliament, met Ahmadinejad’s attacks with similar accusations and asked him to leave the session.

Fazel Larijani has since filed a suit against Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Saeed Mortazavi.

Mortazavi, a staunch Ahmadinejad supporter, is a prime suspect in the case of the torture and death of detainees at Kahrizak Prison in 2009, when he was Tehran Prosecutor. Parliament disputed his appointment to the Social Security Fund because of the judicial case against him.

Now eight people from the Social Security Fund are being questioned by the judiciary.

The judiciary is headed by another Larijani brother, Ayatollah Sadegh Larijani, and Ahmadinejad has also accused the Larijanis of using the judiciary to settle their own family concerns.

The Supreme Leader has urged the heads of the branches of the government to settle their disputes and refrain from washing their dirty laundry in public; however, it appears that his advice has not been taken up by any of these officials.
