Iran’s Supreme Council of National Security has announced that nuclear talks with the G5+1 are scheduled for February 26.
IRNA reported that Ali Bagheri, the deputy head of Foreign Policy at the Supreme Council of National Security, and Helga Schmid, the EU deputy for foreign policy, set the date during a telephone conversation. The talks will reportedly take place in Kazakhstan.
A number of countries have urged Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment program, but Iran has refused to do so, saying it has a right to provide fuel for its research reactor.
Iran’s uranium enrichment facilities are regularly inspected by representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Iran’s Foreign Minister has said that Iran opposes any form of non-peaceful nuclear activity, and Iran’s Supreme Leader has also announced that the use of nuclear weapons is “haram” (prohibited according to religious interpretation).
