Flight disruptions temporarily remedied

Iran’s Oil Ministry has announced that it will resume supplying fuel to the country’s airliners so long as the Aviation Organization begins payment on its seven-trillion-rial debt to the ministry within one week.

Halting the fuel supply caused widespread disruptions on Monday January 7, ISNA reported, with 20 domestic and international flights cancelled.

Officials reported that all flights resumed as scheduled on Tuesday, adding that the Aviation Organization has been given a week’s grace period to resolve its problems and make payments for its fuel.

An ministry spokesman told the Mehr News Agency on Tuesday: “We hope that, according to the agreements, by next week the airline companies will make the necessary payments on their debts.”

The rising price of fuel and the failure of the government to provide foreign currency for airline companies has forced these companies into debt and they have been trying to remedy the situation with alomst fifty percent increase in pasenger air fares.
