Faezeh Hashemi Rafsanjani, who was transferred to solitary confinement in Evin Prison last week and denied visitation rights, has now been returned to the general ward of political prisoners and allowed to meet her family.
The Kaleme opposition website reports that Faezeh Hashemi met with her siblings Fatemeh, Mehdi, Mohsen and Yasser Hashemi on Sunday January 6.
Last week, the head of Iran Prisons announced that Faezeh Rafsanjani had been transferred to solitary for “violating prison regulations on several occasions.” He added: “Her return depends on her own attitude.”
The report on Kaleme says: “Faezeh Hashemi, who had been taken away from the general ward of Evin Prison last week, was returned to the general ward on Wednesday January 2, after a number of her cellmates testified that she was not responsible for causing recent tensions in this ward.”
In recent weeks, Faezeh Hashemi and other female political prisoners have protested against harsh treatment by prison officials.
Faezeh Hashemi, the daughter of Iran’s Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani, the head of Iran’s Expediency Council, is serving a six-month prison term in Evin for the change of “propaganda activities against the regime.”
The Hashemi family became a target of repeated attacks by the country’s conservative factions after the 2009 election protests, and in an interview with Roozonline, Faezeh Hashemi referred to the authorities as a “group of thugs and hoodlums.”
Faezeh Hashemi was the director of Zan (Woman) magazine, which is currently shut down, and she served in the fifth Iranian parliament as an MP.
