The EU has imposed sanctions on Iran’s top institution of technology, Sanati Sharif University in Tehran.
Sanati Sharif University is among the 18 new institutions and companies sanctioned by the European Union.
According to AFP, Sanati Sharif was put under sanctions due to suspicions that it is involved in Iran’s atomic program.
The EU announced that it is adding 18 Iranian companies and one individual to its blacklist on December 22. The move means that EU sanctions against Iran now target 490 companies and 105 individuals.
The sanctions mean that any European assets of these entities are frozen, and the entities are barred from dealing with European companies and individuals.
The sanctions are allegedly aimed at Iran’s atomic activities; however, Iran insists that its nuclear program is peaceful and, as an NPT signatory, it has a right to continue the peaceful exploitation of atomic energy.
