Iran denounces bombing in Lebanon
Ramin Mehmanparast

Iran has condemned the recent bombing in Lebanon, and the Iranian Foreign Ministry said the terrorist act was aimed at “creating divisions among the movements and people of Lebanon.”

Ramin Mehmanparast, a spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, told ISNA on Saturday October 20 that the bombing perpetrators have no regard for the interests of the people and government of Lebanon.

On Friday October 19, a bomb was detonated in a vehicle in Beirut, killing at least eight people and injuring 78.

Mehmanparast stressed that the “main enemy of the people of Lebanon and the region is Israel” and urged the groups, parties and the people of Lebanon to “maintain their unity.”

Reports from Beirut indicate that Brigadier General Wissam al-Hassan, the head of the intelligence prison of Lebanon’s domestic security forces, was the target of the car bomb.

Al-Hassan had reportedly run an investigation of former information minister Michel Samaha, a close ally of the Syrian regime in Lebanon. Samaha was accused of plotting a bombing and assassination campaign to spread sectarian violence in Lebanon.

Lebanon’s Hezbollah has condemned the bombing.
