Iranian official accuses Siemens of sabotage attempt
Alaeddin Boroujerdi

The head of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission has accused the German company Siemens of attempting to sabotage Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Alaeddin Boroujerdi told the Khaneh Mellat News Agency: “Our security and intelligence officials managed to identify explosives installed in machines that were sold to us for our nuclear activities.”

“These machines were supposed to explode and completely destroy the system once they were put to use, but they were cleverly removed by our experts and the enemy’s conspiracy was defused,” Boroujerdi claimed.

He accused Siemens of carrying out this operation and called on the German company to answer for such actions.

Siemens was the first contractor of Iran's Bushehr nuclear power generation plant which began construction in 1975, but the agreement was breached following the 1979 Revolution in Iran and the contract was picked up by Russian contractors in 1992.

The Iranian MP stressed that the International Atomic Energy Agency has taken advantage of “every tool to distort Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.”

He stressed that the Islamic Republic’s persistence in continuing nuclear talks despite these “insidious anti-Iran moves” only proves Iran’s commitment to its responsibilities toward the agency’s regulations.

The IAEA has expressed concern about Iran’s refusal to end its uranium enrichment program, but Iran insists that the program is necessary for producing fuel for its nuclear reactors and that it is used only for peaceful purposes.
