Iranian Paralympians take home 24 medals

On the last two days of the 2012 Paralympics in London, Iran picked up three more medals — a gold, a silver and a bronze — bringing its overall count to 24, which puts it in 11th place on the medals chart.

Mohammad Khalvandi picked up the gold in Men’s Javelin Throw, while also setting a world record of 50.98 metres, on Saturday September 8.

In sitting volleyball, the Iranian team lost to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the finals, grabbing silver in that event.

Iran’s 7-a-side football team beat the Brazilian team 5-0 on Sunday, winning the bronze medal.

Iran’s Paralympic caravan won 10 gold medals in archery, athletics and powerlifting, seven silver medals in athletics, powerlifting and sitting volleyball and seven bronze medals in archery, athletics, powerlifting and shooting and football.

Iranian women won three medals, with a gold in archery won by Zahra Nemati, one bronze by the Iranian archery team and another bronze by Sareh Javanmardi in shooting.

75 countries managed to win at least one medal in the Paralympics and four thousand two hundrend athletes from 164 countries participated in the event which ended Sunday, September 9.
