After the UN Secretary General announced that he will attend the Non-Allied Movement summit in Tehran despite U.S. and Israeli opposition, Israel warned Ban Ki-moon and other world leaders attending the summit not to fall into an Iranian “propaganda trap.”
AFP quoted Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor saying: "This conference will doubtless be exploited by the Iranian regime for propaganda purposes and will try to create the impression of legitimacy for its policies.”
Despite U.S. and Israeli warnings against it, UN spokesman Martin Nesirky confirmed on Wednesday that the UN chief will attend the NAM summit in Tehran on August 30-31.
He will reportedly hold a private meeting with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Egyptian President Mohammad Mursi, Cuban leader Raul Castro and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are among the other top-level delegates attending the summit next week.
