There are 23 Iranian provinces grappling with a dust phenomenon, the Environment Organization of Iran reports.
The deputy head of the organization, Ali Mohammad Shaeri, told IRNA: “Hormozgan, Sistan-Baluchistan, Yazd and Kerman are among the provinces that have been most affected by the dust phenomenon from domestic sources; the other provinces are affected by foreign centres such as Iraq.”
“Iran has on many occasions announced that it is prepared to collaborate with Iraq by providing plans and experts to tackle this problem,” Shaeri added. “But Iraq has shown no interest.”
While the Iranian government has often pointed the finger at Iraq for the problem of dust particles, some independent environmental sources in Iran also accuse the Iranian government of inaction in stopping the destruction of swamps and wetlands, which leads to the spread of dust particles in the atmospheres from the dried sediments.
