U.S. enlists Russian support against Iran
Dmitry Medvedev and Barack Obama

Russia and the U.S. are considering a joint effort to make Iran stand by its international commitments around its nuclear activities.

Ria Novosti reported that on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting, U.S. President Barack Obama said he had met with his Russian counterpart and they had discussed coming up with a joint response to make Iran heed its international commitments.

The latest report from the International Atomic Energy Agency has rallied Western criticism against Iran, because the IAEA chief has announced concerns about possible military dimensions to Iran’s nuclear program.

Iran has denied the allegations and accused the IAEA of political bias. Yesterday, Iran’s Parliament announced that Iran must reconsider its terms of cooperation with the agency because the international nuclear watchdog, according to Iranian officials, has become a vehicle for U.S. political intentions in the region.

While Western powers are looking at further international sanctions against Iran, Russia and China have expressed reluctance to join such efforts.
