Iran prosecutor criticizes Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad came under criticism today from Iran’s prosecutor and judiciary spokesman. According to Mehr News Agency, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei told a gathering in Lorestan Province that the president’s recent moves regarding the minister of intelligence are “inexplicable.”

On Sunday, Ahmadinejad accepted the resignation of Intelligence Minister Heydar Moslehi, only to be overruled two hours later by the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.

Mohseni Ejei said that any activity around the intelligence ministry must be done carefully in order to protect this sensitive government organ.

Ejei added that the Supreme Leader wrote a letter to the president saying the removal of Heydar Moslehi as intelligence minister is not in the interest of the country at this juncture.

Appointment of ministers of intelligence, defence and foreign affairs must be approved by the Supreme Leader.

Despite the official statement about Heydar Moslehi staying on as intelligence minister, the Ahmadinejad’s official website has not yet published that news.

Ahamdienjad’s silence in response to Ayatollah Khamenei’s letter has been criticized by members of parliament, and some have even hinted that a vote may be needed to decide the “competence” of the president.
