The Islamic Republic government says it will make up its budget shortfall resulting from low oil revenues by withdrawing the tax exemptions given to foundations.
Management and Planning Organization Chief Mohammad Bagher Nobakht said on Sunday February 14 that the Shrine in Mashhad and Revolutionary Guards bases will begin to be taxed by the government.
ILNA reports that Nobakht addressed the monthly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, stressing that current taxpayers cannot be expected to top up the government’s budget shortfall, and it is necessary to tax bases and foundations in the coming year.
Earlier attempts to tax the Shrine of Imam Reza organization and Revolutionary Guards bases and foundations did not succeed.
Experts estimate that taxing foundations and bases could bring 16 trillion toumans into government coffers.
