The use of kerosene heaters in schools across Ardebil Province has been banned out of concern for the children’s safety.
The Tasnim News Agency reports that the Ardebil Board of Education has launched a modernization program that includes the removal of kerosene heaters.
Many schools across the country still use kerosene heaters. Last week, the head of the Isfahan Board of Education told Mehr that many of the schools in remote areas still use them.
Two year ago, a fire in a girl’s elementary school in Shinabad left 29 children with severe burns, and two of them died from their injuries. A faulty kerosene heater caused the fire.
The Ardebil Board of Education confirmed that the safety issues surrounding the kerosene heaters have triggered their removal as well as the renovation efforts in the province’s schools.
