A poacher has been sentenced to 42 months in jail for hunting an Iranian panther in northern Iran, the head of Environment and Wildlife Watch of Iran told the Mehr News Agency.
Keyvan Hooshmand told Mehr that forest rangers had been investigating the hunter and discovered his hideout. A search of the hideout turned up a panther tail and an illegal hunting rifle.
The report indicates that one individual was arrested in connection with the hideout and confessed to killing a panther.
Hooshmand adds that the offender has been sentenced to three years for killing a protected wildlife species and another six months for possession of an illegal firearm.
The sentence has reportedly been confirmed by the appeals court.
