Nuclear talks set to resume amid reports of an impasse

The eighth round of nuclear talks between Iran and the 5+1 will take place on Tuesday October 14 in Vienna, and the foreign ministers are to meet on October 15 at the Hotel Coburg.

ISNA reports that Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will travel to Vienna on Tuesday and is set to meet with U.S. State Secretary John Kerry and EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton on Wednesday.

Washington is under pressure from its own Republican politicians and Israeli allies to not grant concessions to Iran in the talks.

The talks appear to have hit a snag, amid some reports that the deadline for reaching an agreement may be stretched beyond November 24, which is already an extension from a previous deadline.

ISNA reports there are no guarantees that the parties will reach an agreement, as Iran has already invested billions of dollars in nuclear energy production and deems the use of this energy as its right.

The Iranian delegation has made several references to the problematic nature of reaching a deal in view of what it describes as “excessive demands” by world powers.
