A number of residents in the area surrounding the Bushehr Nuclear Plant in Khuzestan Province staged a protest against the latest project being implemented in the plant and the lack of adequate concern about the environmental impact of the plant’s activities.
The Khaleej-e Fars website reports that on Wednesday October 9, the protesters first gathered at the site of the new project and later took their protest to the main offices of the Bushehr Nuclear Plant.
The protesters allege that the plant has begun a project that entails discharging larger amounts of waste from the plant into area waters without adequate study of the environmental impact.
The report indicates that the protesters ended their gathering after the head of the Bushehr Security Forces arrived on the scene, assuring protesters that the project will be halted for the time being.
