Nuclear watchdog delegation concludes talks in Iran

Talks between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency ended on Wednesday October 8. Iran's ambassador to the agency, Reza Najafi, told the Fars News Agency that the two-day talks were “constructive, serious, substantive and frank.”

He added that all issues of concern were discussed, including “the mechanism for completion of the two implemented actions.”

According to Fars News, the talks between Iran and the IAEA will continue in late October.

The IAEA delegation arrived in Iran on Monday evening. A spokesman for Iran’s Atomic Agency reported that the IAEA delegation’s trip to Iran was aimed at concluding unresolved issues between Iran and the agency.

Iran has already taken two steps to implement the provisions of the Geneva agreement reached last November between Iran and the 5+1. The IAEA has taken responsibility for monitoring these steps.

Reuters reports that one of the IAEA delegation members was not given a visa. The report indicates that the member is a U.S. citizen.

Marzieh Afkham,  a spokeswoman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, also announced that the talks between Iran and the 5+1 will resume in Vienna next week.

The parties have set a deadline of November 24 for reaching a final and comprehensive deal to resolve their nuclear disputes.
