Workers at the Haft Tapeh Sugar Cane factory have gone on strike once again, this time to protest unfair differences in wages and benefits between different job categories at the company.
ILNA reports that on Wednesday October 1, 500 workers at Khuzestan’s Haft Tapeh Sugar Cane factory stopped working.
The report adds that the workers say a new way of categorizing jobs has created substantial inequities in workers’ wages and benefits, and they want a review of the changes.
As the factory site is undergoing renovations, the strike has actually led to a complete shutdown of production.
Workers are challenging the move to use workers’ education credentials as the basis for higher-wage categories, noting that 85 to 90 percent of workers have no high school diploma.
The workers last went on strike last August to protest the non-payment of their wages.
