Ghoncheh Qavami, the Iranian woman who was detained three months ago for trying to enter a stadium to watch a volleyball game, has been charged with “propaganda against the regime.”
Qavami’s lawyer told Iranian media that his client has pleaded not guilty and will present her defence at trial.
Qavami, 25, was arrested in June of this year for trying to enter the stadium to watch an Iranian men’s team volleyball game in the world volleyball championships.
She was released on bail after a few hours but was arrested again a number of days later and transferred to Evin Prison.
The judiciary has announced that her arrest has nothing to do with sports.
Three hundred Iranian activists have issued an open letter urging President Hassan Rohani to take steps to assure Qavami is afforded all of her rights as a citizen.
