Mortazavi charged with misuse of Social Security Fund

Saeed Mortazavi, the former head of the Social Security Fund, has been summoned to court for the charge of “embezzlement, malversation, and illegal seizure of private property.” The charges have been brought against him by a number of workers covered by the Social Security Fund.

Nasim-on-line reports that the lawyer for the workers, Mostafa Torkhamadani, said Mortazavi will have to appear in court next week to respond to the charges against him.

The Research and Audit Commission of Parliament has investigated violations committed by the Social Security Fund under Saeed Mortazavi’s leadership. According to the report, the Social Security Fund has handed over 138 exclusive contracts with a total value of 4 billion euros to a company in Qeshm under the directorship of Babak Zanjani.

The Fund also has given 37 MPs gift cards worth billions of toumans, and these gift cards have also been given to members of the Mahmoud Ahmadinejad administration.

The Social Security Fund is one of the largest financial organizations in the country. It handles nine companies and organizations and covers 12 million individuals and, counting the families, it provides 37 million people with health insurance.

Saeed Mortazavi is also the notorious former Tehran Prosecutor accused of being involved in the death of detainees under torture in Kahrizak Prison. He was removed from the judiciary after the Kahrizak scandal, but Mahmoud Ahmadinejad immediately placed him in his administration and finally appointed him as head of the Social Security Fund.
