The Iranian Parliament’s Education and Research Commission says 70 percent of teachers across the country are women and the profession needs to be balanced in terms of gender.
According to a report on ILNA, the commission expressed concern about the limited number of male teachers in the capital, stating that more men have to be hired in this profession.
Current statistics from the Ministry of Education indicate that 49 percent of students across the country are girls and 51 percent are boys. The Minister of Education had noted that 80 percent of schoolteachers in the capital are women.
Women’s rights activists argue, however, that women are heavily concentrated in the teaching profession because of the barriers that keep them from moving into leadership positions.
