Ahmadinejad & Rahimi

Iran's prosecutor general says former vice president Mohammadreza Rahimi has been fined and sentenced to jail. No details of the jail term were released.

Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei announced Rahimi’s conviction on September 1 after earlier reports quoted the head of the Tehran Justice Department as saying that Rahimi's file was "thick and heavy."

Mohammadreza Rahimi, who was Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's vice president, was indicted last December for allegedly embezzling from the Iran Insurance Company and was released on bail.

In 2010, several MPs accused Rahimi of involvement in financial fraud, but Mahmoud Ahmadinejad rejected the accusations, and Rahimi remained as Ahamdinejad's vice president until the end of his term last year.
