Iranian natural gas exports to Turkey have come to a halt after an explosion in the pipelines.

Reuters reports that Turkish officials have announced that the explosion occurred close to the Iranian border but the extent of damage and cause of the blast has not been determined.

Iran has increased its gas exports to Turkey in the past week after an explosion in gas pipelines from Azerbaijani to Turkey stopped gas flow from Azerbaijan.

Last year, a number of explosions in Iran-Turkey pipelines were attributed by Iranian authorities to “saboteurs.”

Iran exports close to 10 billion cubic metres of gas to Turkey every year.
