Forty-five workers at the Alvand Thread Factory have been laid off, as management reports a sales decline that forced them to reduce production.

The head of Alvand Thread told ILNA: “In the past year, the ongoing crisis in the textile industry has been deepening, forcing us to reduce our workforce.”

A worker told ILNA there had been 100 workers at the factory with anywhere between 10 to 16 years of seniority, and now that 45 have been laid off, their duties have been divided among the remaining workers.

In recent years, many factories have had to shut down due to high costs and declining sales.
