Iran wants Iraq to stop searching Iranian airplanes heading for Syria, emphasizing there is no truth to allegations that Iran is delivering arms to Syria.
Iraq has stopped two Iranian airplanes in the past month to search for possible arms shipments to Syria. Last Sunday, Iraqi officials announced that after assurances were made that no arms shipments were on board, an Iranian airplane was allowed to pass through.
A similar check was made on an Iranian airplane on October 2.
ISNA reports that Ramin Mehmanparast, the spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, accused Western countries of making false allegations against Iran.
The United States has alleged that Iran is using Iraqi airspace to deliver arms to Syria and has called on Iraq to inspect all Iranian airplanes passing through its airspace.
Iranian authorities deny the charges and claim that they support a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis.
Mehmanparast urged Iraq not to cave in to U.S. pressure and not to allow the inspections to be repeated.
