The Islamic Republic’s Morality Police has yet again returned to the streets of Iran, this time launching a new wave of arrests and unusual sentences against women from all walks of life fighting against the mandatory hijab. The patrol division infamously recognized for the death of Zhina Mahsa Amini are now taking heavier measures to enforce the mandatory hijab including fines and arrests. For women in Iran, this is a continuing battle that is being documented in reports of their daily resistance circulating on social networks since the morality police’s return.
Our cartoon this week flashes back to the iconic image of the lone protestor against a line of army tanks in Tiananmen Square, and is called “Iranian Women Against Mandatory Hijab” by Iranian-American cartoonist Ali Miraee. Source: CartoonMovement.
