Iran’s minister of health announced that Tehran will receive its first medical waste incinerators for the disposal of hospital waste.
The Fars News Agency reports that according to a report by the ministry released on May 6, over fifty percent of the costs will be paid for by the city while the ministry will cover the rest.
The minister of health reports that most hospital waste is currently being treated before disposal in the regular garbage collection system and and all hospitals need to have medical waste incinerators. He added that while public hospitals are treating their medical waste, private clinics and hospitals as well as private physician and dental practices are disposing of their waste through the regular garbage disposal system.
Mohammad Ghazi reports that 400 tons of medical waste are produced on a daily basis across the country and without adequate disposal, they could pose a risk to public health as well as the environment.
