The Turkish foreign minister announced on Friday April 10 that his country will cooperate with Iran and continue close consultation with Arab countries to solve the crisis in Yemen.

The Turkish daily Today’s Zaman reports that Turkey has shifted policy from supporting the Saudi military attack on the advances of the Houthis and President Saleh’s loyalists to favouring a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

“We agreed to cooperate with Iran to end the crisis [in Yemen]. Our contact with the Gulf States will also continue. Our objective here is to end the chaos in Yemen and bring peace and stability back to the country,” Turkish Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu said.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyib Erdogan travelled to Iran last week and met with the Iranian president and the Supreme Leader.

The two countries said they will collaborate on trying to bring a peaceful end to the conflict in Yemen while Saudi Arabia carries out aerial bombing of its southern neighbour.
