Iran shares Syrian plan with UN envoy
Hossein Amir-Abdollahian

Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian says Iran has proposed a four-article plan for resolving the Syrian crisis.

IRNA reports that Amir-Abdollahian said: “The details of the plan have not been publicly announced but we are following up on it through negotiations and diplomatic consultations.”

He added that the plan is first being discussed with Lakhdar Brahimi, the UN envoy to Syria, and later it will be passed on to other main players.

Brahimi arrived in Tehran on Sunday March 16 to discuss the Syrian conflict with Iranian officials,

AmirAbdollahian stressed that Iran’s proposal stresses “the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of the Syrian people and their right to participate in the democratic and electoral mechanism.”

The Islamic Republic has remained one of the chief allies of the Beshar Assad regime since the beginning of the conflict in Syria three years ago.
