Detained opposition leader concerned about wife’s health

An opposition website reports that MirHosein Mousavi has expressed serious concerns to his children about the health of his wife.

Islamic Republic authorities have held Mousavi and his wife, Zahra Rahnavard, under house arrest since February 2011.

On Saturday December 28, the Kaleme website reported that Mousavi and Rahnavard’s daughters visited with their parents last Wednesday, a meeting held in a peaceful atmosphere in the presence of security officials.

MirHosein Mousavi indicated, however, that “Ms. Rahnavard’s pulse and blood pressure have not been normal”, which has caused him concern.

During an earlier visit, the Mousavi children had urged the authorities to attend to their mother’s medical needs.

Despite earlier promises, the Rohani administration has so far been unable to secure the release of opposition leaders Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi from house arrest. Islamic Republic hardliners maintain that Mousavi and Karroubi were at the head of  a “seditious” movement after the 2009 presidential election, when they challenged the legitimacy of the vote count that returned Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to power.
