Journalist released, lawyer given furlough
Jila Bani Yaghoub

Jailed Iranian journalist Jila Bani Yaghoub has been released at the end of her sentence, and Nasrin Sotoudeh, the jailed human rights lawyer, has been given a furlough.

The opposition website Kaleme reports that Bani Yaghoub was released from Evin Prison after serving her one-year sentence.

Bani Yaghoub was arrested along with her husband, Bahman Ahmadi Amouyi, another journalist, in the aftermath of the election protests of 2009. Bani Yaghoub was sentenced to one year in jail and 30-year ban from journalist.

Jailed lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh was given a four-day furlough. Sotoudeh is serving a six-year sentence for “acting against national security, propaganda against the regime and membership in the Human Rights Defenders of Iran.”

She is also banned from practicing law or traveling abroad for 20 years.
