Iranian MP fires back after president’s accusations
Ali Bozrogvari

Iranian MP Ali Bozorgvari has accused President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of spreading conflict and tension in the period leading up to the June presidential election.

ILNA quoted Bozorgvari saying: “Ahmadinejad in his tenth administration has forgotten all about the state of the market and trade in the country, and it appears that all his administration is after is to find an excuse to create tension and make baseless accusations against Parliament.”

Ahmadinejad recently alleged that he has been threatened by powerful establishment figures. These statements have drawn fire from top officials in Parliament and the military, who have accused him of “creating tension and anxiety among the public.”

Bozorgvari, a member of the Agriculture and Water Comssiosn of parliament dismissed Ahmadinejad’s allegations and went on to criticize his performance as the leader of the government.

“Ahmadinejad should be ashamed of his last provincial trips,” Bozorgvari said. “All the projects he launched had already been launched on his previous trips.”

Ahmadinejad’s critics have accused the president of using the government trips as an election campaign for his ally, Esfandiar Rahim Mashai.

Iran’s presidential election is set for June of 2013, and Ahmadinejad will not be eligible to run, having served to consecutive terms. Meanwhile, because of Ahmadinejad’s falling out with the Supreme Leader in the last years of his presidency, the establishment is looking unfavourably at his endorsement for the election.
