Iran’s new homemaker insurance plan to grow
Maryam Mojtahedzadeh

The head of Iran’s National Women and Family Affairs say passage of the general statute on pension and insurance for homemakers means that 100,000 to 200,000 women running households will be eligible for coverage under this government-funded insurance.

The Mehrkhaneh website reports that the head of National Women and Family Affairs Maryam Mojtahedzadeh said on Sunday April 28 that by the end of the fifth development plan, one million female homemakers  will benefit from the insurance, and that will rise to 19 million by the end of the seventh plan.

The report indicates that the cost of coverage will be divided between public health (30 percent), the government (40 percent) and the insured (30 percent).

The head of National Women and Family Affairs stated that the provision of a pension fund for female homemakers is considered an incentive to encourage women to bear more children, a policy adopted by the High Council of Revolution.
