Warnings against new form of sedition
Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei

Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, Prosecutor General of Iran warned the public against the new form of sedition brewing all across the country.

Mohseni Ejei, who is also the spokesman for the judiciary, said: “All evidence is pointing at the arrival of seditious activities in the beginning months of the year.” Iranian New Year begins on March 21.

Fars News Agency reports that in a meeting in Shiraz the Prosecutor General said: “This sedition is different from similar activities in the early years of the Revolution and the sedition of 2009 which means the public and the judiciary must remain fully vigilant.”

The Iranian establishment refers to the election protests of 2009, when millions walked in street demonstrations to protests against the outcome of the elections which they claimed was rigged, as “sedition.”

Iran is facing another presidential election in June of 2013 and the announcements of the Prosecutor General reflect the government’s concern with the possibility of similar mass protests.

The spokesman for the judiciary went on to add: “The subversive elements will engage in public deception this time with the slogans of justice, fight against corruption, support of the underprivileged and… This is only aimed at creating divisions, and fighting it is difficult.”

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has fallen out of favour with the conservative members of the Islamic Republic establishment, has been recently using justice and fighting corruption as major themes of his public statements.

Mohseni Ejei stressed: “The system should enter the scene with strength and flexibility to defuse the plans of enemies just as it did in the case of parliamentary elections. We should take adequate preventive steps to preserve public peace.”

He called on government officials to rely on “the constitution, and the advice of the leader of the Islamic Republic” to prevent all problems.
