Workers protest lack of pay

Fifty workers at a Mazanadaran Textile Factory gathered to protest that their wages have not been paid.

ILNA reports that the workers gathered in front of the House of Workers in Mazandaran in protest against 26 months of unpaid wages. The workers say they have gathered on many occasions in front of the governor and provincial offices but so far have received no wages.

Nosratollah Daryabeigi, executive director of Mazandaran House of Workers, said: “Ghaemshahr Textile Factory workers are victims of mistaken government policies around the unregulated import of goods as well as government subsidy reforms.”

He added that the workers’ problems stem from “mismanagement and unchecked privatization.”

Daryabeigi said the president made many promises to revitalize this company when he’s made trips to the province, but nothing ever came of it.

He added that the workers are not even able to provide for their families’ smallest needs, and many families are on the verge of breakdown.

The House of Workers chief went on to add that the privatization of the factory needs to be reversed and the factory needs to be run again by the Melli Bank, so that the workers are put under the direct management of the government.

Many Iranian factories have faced labour disputes in the past months with workers protesting the lack of pay and the poor working conditions.
