Both sides in nuclear talks find common ground: Iran
Ali Akbar Salehi

Iranian foreign minister Ali Akbar Salehi says Iran and the G5+1 world powers reached a “common ground” in the latest nuclear talks in Istanbul.

IRNA reports that Salehi told Jam-e Jam television network: “We want the fictional file on the Islamic Republic be discarded at some point. This would be to the benefit of both sides.”

Islamic Republic’s nuclear dossier has been of international concern with the West worried that Iran’s nuclear program may have a military component. In the meantime Iran keeps insisting that all its nuclear ambitions are peaceful.

The foreign minister went on to add that Saturday’s meeting in Istanbul were successful adding that his ministry was determined to take the matter forward and not allow it to hit another impasse.

Iran and the G5+1 representatives met in Istanbul on April 14 and both sides announced that the talks were positive and constructive.

Last time the two sides met was 15 months ago in Istanbul were they did indeed reach an impasse. After that the EU and the United States stepped up sanctions on Iran’s financial institutions and oil exports.

Despite Iran’s dismissal of the effects of the sanctions, many reports indicate that Iranian economy has been thrown off balance by the sanctions.
