Culture Minister shares in “A Separation” victory
Mohammad Hosseiny

Iran’s Minister of Culture and Guidance says the permit issued by his ministry was key to the international success of Asghar Farhadi’s celebrated film “A Separation”.

ISNA reports that Culture Minister Mohammad Hosseiny commented on the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film that “A Separation” won at the 84th Academy Awards, saying that his ministry had paved the way for this “valuable success” by issuing the permit for its production.

The production of “A Separation” had apparently ran into some difficulties with the permit while making the film, but those problems were later resolved.

The head of film and cinema affairs at the Ministry of Culture, Javad Shamghadari, described the success of “A Separation” as the start of a new chapter in Iranian cinema.

He had earlier said that the film’s success at the Oscars would depend on what political message was intended for the Islamic Republic.

Asghar Farhadi’s “A Separation” became the first Iranian film to win an Oscar after winning numerous other international awards.
