Detained filmmakers’ activities illegal: Iranian judiciary
Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei

The documentary makers recently arrested in Iran were “engaged in the production of illegal material and provided it to the BBC,” a spokesman for Iran’s judiciary announced at a news conference.

Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei said the filmmakers, who were arrested on the charge of “collaborating with the British Broadcasting Corporation,” were taken into custody based on “an official report from the Ministry of Intelligence.” But he added that he has not yet been informed about the number of detainees and the evidence against them.

Iran’s Prosecutor General and spokesman for the judiciary also told reporters that the judiciary will deal quickly and firmly with the recently uncovered $3-billion bank fraud.

According to reports about this case, $3 billion dollars was acquired fraudulently over the course of four years, starting at a branch of the Bank of Saderat in Ahvaz.

Mohseni Ejei said the head of that bank branch and a number of its managers have been arrested in connection with the case. The head of the Melli Bank branch in Kish and a number of other bank managers and individuals have also been arrested, he said.
