Iran to blacklist 26 US officials for rights violations
Kazem Jalali

Iran is planning to impose sanctions against 26 US officials for “human rights violation”, an Iranian MP announced yesterday.

Kazem Jalali, a spokesman for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said yesterday: “Twenty-six US officials who have committed human rights violations across the world, such as in Iraq and Afghanistan, and supported terrorism and engaged in drug smuggling, will be sanctioned by the Islamic Republic."

Jalali said the plan to blacklist the US officials will be reviewed by Parliament on Tuesday May 24, and once approved, punitive measures will be put in place for them. Jalali did not announce the names of the US officials.

The US has blacklisted 10 Islamic Republic officials accused of “human rights violations.”

The list includes names such as Moahmmadreza Naghdi, head of the Basij paramilitary; Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, Iran’s Prosecutor General; Heydar Moslehi, the Minister of Intelligence, and Ahamd-Reza Radan, commander of Iranian security forces. The sanctions impose assets freezes and travel bans to the US.

In April, four US senators urged Hilary Clinton to add the name of Mahmoud Ahamdinejad to the blacklist. They also called for the inclusion of 32 Iranian officials already blacklisted by the European Union.
